Privacy Policy

KindredCompass ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

• Location — Used to find spots near you. GPS is only accessed when you use the app or when you've saved favorites with geofence alerts enabled. We do not store your location on our servers.
• Name — During onboarding we ask for a first name used to personalize the app. It is stored only on your device and in your personal iCloud. We do not have access to this.
• DNA Profile — Your food, music, and lifestyle preferences are stored locally on your device and in iCloud (your own account). We do not have access to this data.
• Scan Results — Your scan history is stored locally on your device and in iCloud. We do not have access to it.
• Purchase History — Tip jar purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We only record the count of tips locally on your device.
• Anonymous Usage Analytics — We collect anonymous event signals (e.g. "scan started," "trip planned," "tip completed") to understand how the app is used and prioritize improvements. Events are sent to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. No personal identifiers are included, data is not linked to any user identity, and it is not used for tracking across other apps or websites.
• Crash and Performance Diagnostics — We use Apple's built-in MetricKit to receive anonymous crash reports and basic performance metrics (launch time, memory usage). This helps us fix bugs quickly. No personal data is included.

Data We Do Not Collect

• We do not create user accounts
• We do not collect your email or personal identifiers
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties
• We do not track you across other apps or websites

Third Party Services

• Google Gemini AI — Your DNA preferences and mood are sent to generate recommendations. No personally identifiable information is included.
• Google Places API — Used to look up venue details. Requests are proxied through our secure backend.
• Apple WeatherKit — Used to add weather context to scans. Subject to Apple's privacy policy.
• Apple StoreKit — All in-app purchases are processed by Apple.
• TelemetryDeck — Anonymous analytics. See TelemetryDeck's privacy policy for details.

Data Storage

All personal data (name, DNA profile, favorites, history) is stored on your device via UserDefaults and iCloud Key-Value Storage under your own Apple ID. We cannot access this data.

Your Choices

You can reset your entire profile at any time from the Profile screen (Reset Profile), which clears all locally stored data. You can disable location access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Children's Privacy

KindredCompass is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
